Run nodes

A run starts nodes in order. A node starts when the nodes before it are done.

Run the selected nodes

A run starts only the nodes that you select.

  1. Select the nodes to run. To run the whole workflow, press ⌘A on Mac or Ctrl+A on Windows or Linux. This selects all nodes.
  2. Click Run, or press ⌘↵ on Mac or Ctrl+Enter on Windows or Linux.

With no selection, Run is off. A node that you did not select passes on its current result to the selected nodes. If that node has no result yet, the run does not start. Select that node too.

Next to the button, tabletop shows the most tokens that a run of the selected nodes can use: “up to” a number of tokens. See Tokens and plans.

Run one node

Click the node, then open the Run tab of the inspector:

ButtonWhat it does
RunRuns only this node.
Re-runRuns this node again. A locked node cannot run again until you unlock it.

Outdated nodes

A node shows OUTDATED when you change it, or a node before it, after its last run. Its result does not match its settings and inputs now. Select the node and run it again.

Read the state of a node

Each node shows its state while it runs.

StateMeaning
IdleThe node did not run yet.
Waiting for inputsThe node waits for the nodes before it.
QueuedThe node is ready and waits for its turn.
RunningThe node runs now. A bar shows the progress.
Needs approvalThe node is done and waits for you. See below.
DoneThe node has a result. Cached means that tabletop used an earlier result with the same inputs and settings.
FailedThe node stopped with an error. Click Retry.
CancelledYou cancelled the run. Click Retry to run the node again.
InterruptedThe run stopped before the node was done. Click Retry.

The Jobs tray lists each node run with its state and its time.

Stop a run

Click Cancel runs. Nodes that wait do not start. Nodes that run now finish and use their tokens.

Check each result before the next node

Use approval when a node costs many tokens, or when you want to check each result.

  • Step: click Step in place of Run. The run pauses after every node.
  • Pause for approval: in the Run tab of a node, turn on Pause for approval. The run pauses after each run of that node.

When a node pauses, it shows Needs approval:

  1. Look at the result on the node.
  2. Click Approve to go on, or Re-run to make a new result.

Keep a result with Lock

A locked node keeps its result. Runs and edits do not change it.

  1. Select the node.
  2. Click Lock on the canvas bar, or press ⌘⇧L on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows or Linux.

To run the node again, click Unlock.
